Depth-oriented therapy for those seeking what comes next.
Life may be handing you a laundry list of complexities without much direction. Whatever your experience has been with doubt, addiction, identity, and/or belief systems, it’s welcome here.
You are welcome here.
Hi! My name is Ryan Speed. I am a psychotherapist based in Kansas City, and creator of Speed Psychotherapy, LLC.
I believe therapy is not about “fixing” or steering you toward a predetermined outcome. It’s about creating a place where complexity and nuance are welcome.
Who I am
My hope is to help create a space where doubt, fear, anger, curiosity, and hope can sit in the same room without being rushed.
If you’re considering therapy, you don’t have to have everything figured out. We can start where you are.
Who I often work with…
You don’t need to be in crisis to seek therapy. I work with those that feel something is unsettled, even if it is not quite catastrophic.
-
You don’t have to identify as an “addict” to wonder if you would like something to change.
Maybe drinking has become more frequent. Maybe substances help you cope, yet, you’re beginning to question the trade-offs. Maybe you’ve tried cutting back on a behavior you have known well, and found it harder than expected.
If this resonates with you, then this is a space for honest exploration without labels and certainly without ultimatums. Using a collaborative approach, I want to explore with you what these things are doing for you and what next steps may or may not feel aligned with your values.

Your 20s and 30s can feel unexpectedly disorienting. This season may include career uncertainty, relationship shifts, new cities, and so much more. This time may even involve losing clarity about who you are or what you want.
I strive to create a space to slow down and understand the patterns shaping your decisions. Let’s explore identity, expectations, and the internal pressures that may be driving you.
-
For some people, religious spaces were not just confusing or even harmful. This work isn’t about steering anyone back to a system or away from one. It’s about creating space to think clearly and honestly.
I help clients explore grief, anger, doubt, relief, or curiosity that connect to these experiences. I provide a space for this exploration without pressure to land in a particular place. Your autonomy is a priority.

Many men have been taught to stay composed, handle things on their own, and minimize vulnerability.
I work with clients who have felt the pressure to be competent and steady when they are unsure, overwhelmed, or feel disconnected.
This space can focus on expanding emotional and experiential elements without judgment. We can explore identity, responsibility, and relationships. I hope to learn what strength actually means for you.
My hope is that therapy can be a space where honesty doesn’t threaten, but deepens my clients’ dignity.
My Approach
My clinical training is based in psychodynamic psychotherapy. My work is depth-oriented and relational. That means we don’t just focus on surface symptoms. We explore patterns, formative experiences, internal conflicts, and the meanings you’ve made of your life. I want to get to know you.
I am trained in Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction and I have extensive experience working with substance use. I approach these conversations without shame or pressure. You don’t have to label yourself. You don’t have to commit to a specific recovery model. We work at the pace that feels honest.
I also have training in spiritually informed therapy. For some clients, faith is central to their story. For others, it has been a source of confusion or harm. I do not bring a theological agenda into the room. If spirituality matters to you, we can explore that thoughtfully and respectfully.
